Nature Alarm Clock
A Poetry Prompt Weekly Submission
Nature is my alarm clock — Dawn’s first light enters the window, It’s blue dim slips between the shades As my blue eyes slip between gently opened eyelids. There’s a subtle quiet as the world awakens — Before the birds sing their morning song, Before the bees sip dew during their commute — My mind clings to a half remembered dream. Tucked between the warm blankets — I struggle to move from that perfect spot, To stand naked in the cold shock of the world. But as the day yawns, And the yolk of the sun cracks over the horizon, My limbs stretch and unfurl like flowers — I rise to wakefulness, While the morning chorus crescendos.
